³⁴ you are to say, ‘Your servants, both we and our ancestors, have raised livestock^[a] from our youth until now.’ Then you will be allowed to settle in the land of Goshen, since all shepherds are detestable to Egyptians.”^(A)

²⁶ But Moses said, “It would not be right^[a] to do that, because what we will sacrifice to the Lord our God is detestable to the Egyptians.^(A) If we sacrifice what the Egyptians detest in front of them, won’t they stone us?
