2 ¶ Jezi te fèt lavil Betleyèm nan peyi Jide, sou tan wa Ewòd. Apre li te fèt, kèk nèg save ki konn etidye zetwal yo soti nan peyi solèy leve, yo rive lavil Jerizalèm.
2 Yo t'ap mande: Kote wa jwif ki fenk fèt la? Nou wè zetwal li parèt depi nan peyi nou an, nou vin adore li.
3 Lè wa Ewòd pran nouvèl la, sa te boulvèse tèt li. Sa te boulvèse tout moun lavil Jerizalèm yo tou.
4 Ewòd reyini tout chèf prèt yo ansanm ak direktè lalwa yo ki t'ap dirije pèp jwif la. Li mande yo: Ki kote Kris la gen pou l' fèt?
5 Yo reponn li: Se lavil Betleyèm nan peyi Jide li gen pou l' fèt. Paske, men sa pwofèt la te ekri:
6 Ou menm, Betleyèm, ki bati sou tè Jida a, pawòl sèten: se pa ou ki pi piti nan tout lavil peyi Jida yo. Paske, gen yon chèf ki gen pou soti lakay ou. Se li menm ki va kondi moun Izrayèl yo, pèp mwen an.
7 Se konsa, Ewòd fè nèg save yo vin jwenn li an kachèt. Li mande yo kilè egzakteman zetwal la te parèt.
8 Apre sa, li voye yo ale Betleyèm. Li di yo: Ale non! Chache konnen tout bagay sou ti pitit la. Lè n'a jwenn li, fè m' konnen pou m' sa kapab al adore l', mwen menm tou.
9 ¶ Apre wa a te fin di yo sa, nèg save yo pati. Lè sa a, zetwal yo te wè nan peyi solèy leve a parèt devan yo ankò. Li t'ap mache devan yo. Zetwal la kontinye konsa jouk li rive sou tèt kay kote ti pitit la te ye a. Epi l' rete.
10 Lè yo te wè zetwal la, yo pa t' manke kontan.
11 Yo antre nan kay la, yo wè ti pitit la ansanm ak Mari, manman li. Yo mete ajenou devan l', yo adore l'. Apre sa, yo louvri sak yo, yo ba li anpil kado: te gen lò, lansan ak lami.
12 Apre sa, Bondye pale ak nèg save yo nan dòmi, li avèti yo pou yo pa tounen bò kote Ewòd ankò. Se konsa mesye yo fè yon lòt wout pou yo tounen al nan peyi yo.
13 ¶ Lè nèg save yo fin ale, yon zanj Bondye parèt devan Jozèf nan dòmi. Zanj lan di l' konsa: Leve non, pran ti pitit la ansanm ak manman l'. Sove ale nan peyi Lejip. Wa rete la jouk lè m'a di ou pou ou tounen. Paske, Ewòd pral chache touye ti pitit la.
14 Jozèf leve nan mitan lannwit lan, li pran ti pitit la ansanm ak manman l'. Li pati, li ale nan peyi Lejip.
15 Jozèf rete la jouk lè Ewòd mouri. Se konsa, pawòl Bondye te mete nan bouch pwofèt la te rive vre. Li te di: Mwen rele pitit mwen, mwen fè l' soti kite peyi Lejip.
16 ¶ Lè Ewòd wè nèg save yo te pase l' nan jwèt, li fè yon gwo kòlè. Li bay lòd touye tout ti pitit gason ki te nan lavil Betleyèm ak nan tout vwazinaj la, depi sa ki te fèk fèt jouk sa ki te gen dezan, dapre dat nèg save yo te ba li a.
17 Se konsa, pawòl pwofèt Jeremi te di a rive vre:
18 Yo tande yon rèl nan lavil Rama. Yo tande kriye ak gwo anmwe. Se Rachèl k'ap kriye pou pitit li yo. Li pa vle pesonn ba li kouraj, paske pitit li yo mouri.
19 ¶ Apre Ewòd mouri, yon zanj Bondye parèt devan Jozèf nan dòmi, antan l' nan peyi Lejip la.
20 Zanj lan di l': Leve non, pran ti pitit la ansanm ak manman l', tounen nan peyi Izrayèl la. Paske, moun ki te vle touye ti pitit la, yo mouri.
21 Lamenm Jozèf leve, li pran ti pitit la ansanm ak manman l', li tounen nan peyi Izrayèl la.
22 Men, lè Jozèf vin konnen se Akelayis ki t'ap gouvènen peyi Jide a nan plas Ewòd, papa l', Jozèf te pè ale la. Bondye pale avè l' ankò nan dòmi. Lè sa a, li pati, li ale nan peyi Galile.
23 Li vin rete nan yon vil yo rele Nazarèt. Se konsa, pawòl pwofèt yo te di a rive vre: y'a rele l' moun Nazarèt.

2 Jezi te fèt nan yon ti vil yo rele Bètleyèm, nan rejyon Jide, sou reny wa Ewòd. Apre sa, kèk maj ki sòti an Oryan te vini Jerizalèm. 2 Yo te poze kesyon sa a: “Kote pitit ki dwe vin wa Juif yo? Paske, nou te wè zetwal li nan syèl la, konsa, nou vini pou adore l.”
3 Pawòl sa a te lage gwo latwoublay nan tèt wa Ewòd ak nan tèt tout moun nan vil Jerizalèm. 4 Konsa, li rasanble tout chèf sakrifikatè yo ak tout pwofesè nan lalwa Moyiz la, epi li mande yo ki kote Mesi a gen pou fèt. 5 Yo reponn li: “Nan Bètleyèm, nan rejyon Jide, dapre sa pwofèt la te ekri a:
6 Ou menm Bètleyèm, ki nan teritwa Jida.
Se sèten ou konte pami gwo vil Jida yo.
Paske gen yon gwo chèf k ap soti lakay ou.
L ap tankou yon bèje nan tèt Izrayèl, pèp mwen an.”[a]
7 Ewòd rele maj yo sou kote pou l chache konnen ki premye fwa yo te wè zetwal la. 8 Apre yo fin pale, Ewòd voye maj yo ale Bètleyèm. Epi li di yo: “Al pran bon jan enfòmasyon sou ti pitit la, lè nou jwenn li n a fè m konnen, paske mwen menm tou m ta vle adore l.”
9 Lè maj yo fin tande sa Ewòd di a, y al fè wout yo. Apre sa, zetwal yo te wè lè yo te an Oryan an reparèt, li kondui yo jouktan l rive sou kote pitit la te ye a. 10 Se pa ti kontan yo te kontan lè yo te wè zetwal la parèt.
11 Maj yo antre anndan kay la, yo wè pitit la ak manman li, Mari. Yo mete ajenou epi yo adore li. Apre sa, yo louvri valiz yo epi yo fè pitit la kado: lò, lansan, ak lami. 12 Men, kòm Bondye te avèti maj yo nan yon rèv pou yo pa retounen bò kote Ewòd ankò, yo pran yon lòt chemen pou retounen nan peyi yo.
Jozèf ak Mari mennen Jezi nan peyi Ejip
13 Touswit apre maj yo fin pati, yon anj Senyè a te parèt devan Jozèf nan yon rèv. Zanj lan di li: “Leve! Degaje w pran pitit la ak tout manman l, ale nan peyi Ejip. Ewòd gen entansyon chache ti pitit la pou touye l. Rete nan peyi Ejip jouktan mwen di w lè pou w retounen.”
14 Jozèf pran manman an ak tout pitit la, li pati pandan lannuit la pou ale an Ejip. 15 Yo rete an Ejip jouktan Ewòd mouri. Vwayaj an Ejip la se yon aksyon ki fè nou konprann pi byen pwofesi ki di: “Mwen rele pitit gason m nan pou l soti kite peyi Ejip.”[b]
Ewòd touye tout bebe gason nan Bètleyèm
16 Lè Ewòd reyalize maj yo te fè l yon move kou, se pa ti fache l te fache. Li pase lòd pou yo touye tout ti gason soti nan zewo pou rive dezan nan Bètleyèm ak nan tout zòn ozalantou l yo. Ewòd te aji dapre kalkil li te fè selon sa l te aprann nan bouch maj yo konsènan lè zetwal la te parèt la. 17 Konsa, sa fè nou konprann pi byen pwofesi Jeremi an:
18 “Yon rèl pete nan Rama.
Se yon rèl lanmò ak dezolasyon.
Rachèl ap kriye pou pitit li yo.
Li refize tout konsolasyon.
Paske pitit li yo mouri.”[c]
Jozèf ak Mari retounen nan peyi yo
19 Apre lanmò Ewòd, yon anj Senyè a parèt devan Jozèf nan yon rèv nan peyi Ejip. 20 Li di l: “Leve! Pran pitit la ak manman l, retounen nan peyi Izrayèl. Moun ki te vle touye l yo gen tan mouri.”
21 Konsa, Jozèf pran ti pitit la ak manman l, yo retounen nan peyi Izrayèl. 22 Men, lè Jozèf tande se Akelayis, pitit Ewòd la, ki te pran plas papa l kòm wa nan rejyon Jide a, li te pè pou retounen nan zòn sa a. Konsa, apre Bondye te avèti l nan yon rèv, Jozèf t al rete nan rejyon Galile pito. 23 Li t al rete nan yon ti vil yo rele Nazarèt. Sa fè nou konprann pi byen sa pwofèt yo te di a: “Y a rele li moun Nazarèt.”[d]

The Magi Visit the Messiah
2 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea,(A) during the time of King Herod,(B) Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?(C) We saw his star(D) when it rose and have come to worship him.”
3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem(E) in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:
6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’[b]”(F)
7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared. 8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”
9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.(G) Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts(H) of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 And having been warned(I) in a dream(J) not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.
The Escape to Egypt
13 When they had gone, an angel(K) of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream.(L) “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”(M)
14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled(N) what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”[c](O)
16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi. 17 Then what was said through the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled:(P)
18 “A voice is heard in Ramah,
weeping and great mourning,
Rachel(Q) weeping for her children
and refusing to be comforted,
because they are no more.”[d](R)
The Return to Nazareth
19 After Herod died, an angel(S) of the Lord appeared in a dream(T) to Joseph in Egypt 20 and said, “Get up, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who were trying to take the child’s life are dead.”(U)
21 So he got up, took the child and his mother and went to the land of Israel. 22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning in Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. Having been warned in a dream,(V) he withdrew to the district of Galilee,(W) 23 and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth.(X) So was fulfilled(Y) what was said through the prophets, that he would be called a Nazarene.(Z)
